Things I've learned this year (last year)

Ok, so I’m a copy cat and my roommate did this first, but I thought it would be a good idea to look back at this past year and think about some things I’ve learned…so…

I guess the biggest thing I learned is that it is ok to dream big. Because we serve a God who is FAR bigger than even our most outrageous dream; and He longs to give us the desires of our hearts when they are on the right track.

In learning to dream big, I also learned that you may not be ready for what you want and that sometimes it costs more than you realize to have your dreams fulfilled. But, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth it.

I learned that, though absence may not make the heart grow fonder, separation from those we love makes the time we get with them seem that much more valuable.

I learned that when God speaks, we need to do more than listen, we need to drop everything and run hard after His voice, b/c if it’s important enough for him to say something about then it must be HUGE.

I learned that my boys grew up while I was gone. Pauls, IAN! and my handsome are not little kids anymore…and guys, you are the ones my new boys are watching…so, make wise choices!

I learned that youth are youth everywhere and weather Ukrainian or American I want to hang out with them because I know that they are changing our world.

I learned that if you leave the Radooga campsite and start singing American Pie you will arrive at the airport almost exactly 7 seconds after completing the final verse.

I learned that most of us, as youth, didn’t appreciate Todd as much as we should have, but now in our college years have turned to him as pastor and as friend. If you’re still in youth—learn from our experience…Todd ROCs.

I learned that I love my mom more than I realized I did and becoming her friend is one of my favorite memories. I can’t wait to show her Kiev.

I’m learning to be a better friend.

I’m learning to let people be my friend.

I’m learning about prayer…it connects us to God. It also keeps us connected to each other. I don’t understand so much about it. But, I do know that “where two or more are gathered in [His] name, there [He] is in the mist of them.” And have seen this proven true time and time again just this past year.

I’m learning a lot about life and love and relationships and people and culture and distance and all sorts of stuff. I hope that in 2006 I will learn a lot more and that I will continue to hold dear the people who have invested in me and helped to learn all that I’ve learned thus far.
